The Sparta Community unit District # 140 is located in the
southern part of Illinois, about halfway between St. Louis and
Carbondale. Located within the District are the towns of
Sparta, Tilden, and Evansville, where attendance centers are
located. The District has five schools, which includes one high
school and four feeder elementary schools. The names of the
schools are: Sparta High School, Sparta Lincoln Middle School,
Sparta Primary Attendance Center, Evansville Attendance Center,
and Tilden Attendance Center. A fairly new Lutheran High School
in Evansville is attended by a few students from Sparta. The
estimated population of the District is 11,300. Sparta is
served by the junior college in Randolph County, Southwestern
Illinois College (SWIC).
The District 2005 EAV is $71,585,939 and is broken down as
follows: 52% residential, farm 23%, and 14% commercial. The
2005 tax rate is 4.89596. Operating expense per pupil in
2005-06 was $7,895. The high school graduation rate is 96.6%,
with many of the graduates having been admitted to prestigious
institutions. |
